Maintenance Technician in Akron, OH
Title: Maintenance Technician | Hire Type: Permanent
Currently assisting our client, a manufacturing company headquartered in Akron, with their search for a Maintenance Technician.
The Maintenance Technician will provide maintenance and performance support for company production machinery. Tasks will include basic preventative maintenance, breakdown maintenance, and reporting. Technicians will need to determine the severity of damaged machine parts to determine whether major repairs are necessary while maintaining a safe work environment. This position will oversee all physical aspects of production equipment and include various tasks required from other departments to achieve higher quality, productivity, and better safety.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities Include:
- Calculating and installing main electric to equipment and other power distribution
- Initiates purchase orders for items necessary to repair or replace component parts or other related equipment.
- Performs various preventive maintenance functions on equipment on a scheduled basis to maintain equipment and prevent breakdowns.
- Maintain attendance according to facility guidelines as well as being able to work constructively with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. in performing daily responsibilities.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs manufacturing equipment in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner that is consistent with manufacturer and industry standards, maintaining standard operating procedures.
- Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical / electrical equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic circuits, conveyor systems, and production machines, using schematics, blueprints, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications to complete tasks.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions to locate sources of problems by observing mechanical / electrical machinery in operation and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Fabricate and repair parts by using basic machine shop equipment
- Test performance of electrical assemblies, using test instruments such as oscilloscopes, electronic multi-meters.
- Prepare mechanical / electrical maintenance work reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends for historical logs.
- Maintain PLC programs for controlling various types of machines.
- Diagnose machinery and facility problems and make necessary corrections
- Troubleshoot and repair plant piping including compressed air, chilled water, and drainage.
- Diagnoses and correct mechanical problems involving gears, chain and belt drives, conveyors, injection molding, and presses
- Control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance and electrical techniques; monitoring compliance.
- Promotes a safe workplace, displaying safety awareness and following all safety related policies, procedures, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines
Education/Experience
Requirements
- High School Diploma; Associates Degree in Industrial Maintenance is a bonus
- 2-4 years of machine troubleshooting experience
- Familiarity with schematics, hydraulics, voltmeters, and ohmmeters
- Strong knowledge of PLC testing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and servicing all types of electrical equipment and their associated control networks and I/O experience preferred.
- Previous experience in industrial and machine maintenance includes hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and AC/ DC drives.
- Ability to read, interpret, and decipher general written instructions from documents such as work orders, parts orders, safety regulations, operating procedures, or other job specific written documents.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to detect problems quickly and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
